Today’s Action: Tell President Biden to do MORE for abortion access!
President Biden has recently taken limited executive action to help abortion-seekers, but legislators and activists are calling for more. His executive orders calls for an access-focused task force, protection for those seeking abortion out-of-state, and to encourage private attorneys to work pro bono to offer representation to patients and providers risking arrest. However, there has yet to be specific steps or delegations announced — simply intent.
We need bold, innovative action on abortion access, and we needed it planned out the second that the Supreme Court released their draft opinion. The overturning of Roe v. Wade has placed the lives of birth-givers throughout the country at risk the minute the gavel fell, subjecting those in red states to extremist trigger laws with the goal of forcing unwanted and dangerous pregnancies. It’s beyond inhumane and frankly, we need President Biden to do MUCH more. Whether it’s removing the remaining FDA restrictions on abortion pills or giving a more thorough action plan, time is running out to protect reproductive healthcare throughout the country.
Write President Biden and urge him to do more to protect the right to abortion!
While things might seem bleak, the fight isn’t over yet. You can still currently receive abortion aid via mail in most states, and financial aid is available if you cannot afford your care. While acquiring and using abortion pills may come with legal risk, widespread access to such resources is crucial for women under attack from crusading conservatives. While abortion is being attacked by conservatives, we are lucky to have abortion funds and activists who have been building resources in preparation for this possibility.
What at first felt like a terrifying possibility is now a grim reality for half the country, and we can’t wait for our legislators to take the lead. It has never been more crucial to join the fight. Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing your members of Congress, your voice is needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here; states with conservative legislatures — Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana, in particular — are in dire need of support in the face of unrelenting attacks on women’s healthcare.
Write President Biden and demand a comprehensive action plan to protect abortion access!
