Last month, the radical, out-of-control conservative majority on the Supreme Court released a series of opinions stripping Americans of their rights and the government of its ability to regulate in key areas.
In West Virginia v EPA, the Court severely limited the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to protect the environment — specifically in regulating carbon pollution from coal-powered power plants.
This decision was not only wrong, it comes at the time where we need to be doing as much as possible to fight climate change. Our air is going to be more polluted because of the far-right opinion of six Justices who took the side of polluting corporations over what's best for the people.
There's little doubt that the court will continue to try to restrict the EPA's ability to enforce the regulations put forward in laws like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. On this issue as well as with the right to an abortion, the right to vote, and gun regulation, it's clear that the solution has to be taking power away from this far-right majority.
Thank you,
Team Bowman
