Become a sustaining member right now to help fight back against far authoritarians and the corporate Dems enabling them - our movement is growing and we will not be ignored.

This Fourth of July, we are in a battle for Independence from Tyranny. Our radical Supreme Court has gone rogue, tearing down our human rights in rapid succession: abortion rights, privacy, clean air, and more — all in a time of rising authoritarianism and corporate domination.

Things appear bleak, but this darkness is galvanizing our movement to fight with greater solidarity and tenacity. It’s not an exaggeration to say we are in the fight for our lives, and nothing less than freedom, democracy, and justice are on the line.

Enjoy your holiday with loved ones, and please chip in if you can to help mount a powerful opposition to tyranny in all its forms this Independence Day.

BUILDING WORKER POWER

Our Revolution teamed up with SEIU, CWA, Fight for $15 and a Union, and US Rep. Ro Khanna on Monday for a powerful LIVE organizing call to BUILD WORKER POWER — one of the most powerful tools of democracy.

Corporate Dems are blocking federal action like the PRO Act, with state-level action we can win innovative, game-changing legislation to give workers a real seat at the table — starting in California.

RO KHANNA GOES TO WORK FOR LABOR

Ro listened to worker activists and labor leaders on our Monday call and joined them in demanding the California State Senate pass AB-257 - The FAST Recovery Act.

The bill would give fast-food workers a say in setting health, safety, and employment standards while holding major food chains accountable.

“This is something where a mobilized effort can win within a couple of weeks, and then we can take it across the country and for workers in different sectors,” Ro said. “These folks have very little say in their workplaces — they’ve risked it all to step out on picket lines for worker justice, and we must stand with them.”

Ro will also hold a rally and roundtable on July 8 with fast-food workers in his state. “There is no reason for the delay,” he said, “especially now as prices are going up and wages aren’t.”

Ro Khanna and the worker activists on our call are urging immediate collective action and for folks in California to sign our petition that goes straight to CA State Senators.

Ro said unequivocally that your activism on this issue can tip the balance — Add your voice now in solidarity with CA workers calling for AB 257 and demand more democracy in the workplace.

Moriah Foster, a young Burger King worker in Sacramento, told us on the call that she learned she could stand up for herself and her co-workers and began striking for $15 and a Union.

California was the first state to win $15 - six years ago - but now, she said, they’re pressing forward for more and for unions.

Moriah told us some workers are afraid to stand up because of the retaliation happening. “That’s why AB 257 is so important — it levels the playing field and gives employees a say in the rules that affect us the most.”

“Pushing for this bill is something everyone can contribute to with their voices and their votes,” Moriah said. Sign now if you live in California!

Ingrid Vilorio, a worker at Jack-in-the-Box in Castro Valley, CA, spoke on the organizing call about the deplorable conditions fast-food workers experience.

In her 10 years in the industry, Ingrid has seen wage theft, stolen time, harassment, discrimination, grueling hours, etc. Workers lack health insurance and have multiple jobs to supplement the low wages, she said.

“With AB 257, we’ll be able to speak directly with these corporations, which are aware of all these problems but do nothing to solve them,” Ingrid said. “On the contrary, they’re taking advantage of all the employees every single day.”

Californians: Sign now to stand with Ingrid and Moriah as they fight for dignity and fairness.

SEIU Local 1021 President Joseph Bryant, who was newly-elected Executive VP of SEIU International was moved by Moriah and Ingrid’s stories.

“These workers have been in this fight so long, shown so much fortitude and courage — they’re why we’re here with a chance to pass legislation to give half a million workers in CA a voice,” he said.

“If we don’t do anything, nothing is going to change,” Joseph told thousands gathered on our call. “We’re demanding the state legislature recognize the sacrifice made by folks in this industry who were touted as heroes - and they absolutely are, they risked their lives every day to provide food.”

Joseph said 80% are workers of color and two-thirds are women. A recent SEIU survey found that 85% of fast-food workers in California were victims of wage theft from employers denying paid breaks and withholding overtime pay.

TAKE ACTION IN CALIFORNIA

Thanks to the filibuster, Congress has stalled the PRO Act to protect and empower workers at the federal level, but the Biden Administration has the power to make sure companies who do business with the U.S. Government treat their workers with respect.

Our Revolution stands with workers at Maximus — a multi-billion dollar company with some of the largest federal contracts to run public services. They’re fighting to unionize with CWA and recently went on strike at the company’s largest call centers in Louisiana and Mississippi — demanding healthcare and an end to poverty wages.

On the second day of the strike, they were joined at a town hall by Sen. Bernie Sanders, US Rep. Andy Levin, Rev. William Barber, and other allies in this fight to build worker power.

SOLIDARITY.

★ ★ ★

Tonya Jackson of the Maximus Worker Organizing Committee also joined our National Call to Build Worker Power on Monday, breaking down federal contract workers’ fight for justice and a union with CWA.

Tonya works at a call center, helping people navigate our healthcare system every day, yet she and her coworkers can’t afford to access healthcare for themselves.

“Every single day is a struggle for us on the front lines,” Tonya said. “Maximus gets diversity awards for hiring us, but that doesn’t protect us when they’re trying to prevent us from organizing for better wages and healthcare.”

Corporate greed is at the root of the war against workers from inflation to low wages, offshoring jobs to high gas prices — you name it. That’s why we’re fighting like hell to build worker power. Join us!

BIG WINS IN ILLINOIS!

Our Revolution members and activists worked hard for our Illinois candidates, and it paid off with major statewide and congressional victories on Tuesday.

All told, our volunteers made 369,000 voter contacts through phone calls, texts, and emails. This is how we’re clinching wins against all the big money spent targeting progressive candidates. Power to the people!

Congratulations to Alexi Giannoulias for winning the Illinois Sec. of State primary race!

Alexi is a staunch defender of democracy who vows to put people first and stand up to powerful interests.

In a time when our democracy itself is under threat, it’s crucial to have someone with integrity and progressive ideals like him at the helm. Taking power in statewide races like this is key to combating the far right.

★ ★ ★

With our movement and Bernie behind her, Delia Ramirez defeated Chicago Alderman Gilbert Villegas by a 2-1 vote in Illinois’ 3rd District!

Delia is a founder of Our Illinois Revolution, has been a progressive fighter in the State House, and we can send her to Congress in November!

As a State Rep, Delia created a housing committee, expanded housing and Medicaid coverage, co-sponsored the IL Clean Energy and Jobs Act, and created an elected school board in Chicago.

★ ★ ★

Bernie also joined us in endorsing Jonathan Jackson, who beat out 16 other Democrats to clinch the nomination and become the next likely congressman to represent this safe blue district in IL-1.

The son of Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jonathan ran on our popular progressive issues to fill the seat held 30 years by former Black Panther Bobby Rush.

“The issues Our Revolution Illinois espouses - workers’ rights, clean energy, criminal justice, to name a few, align with the types of policies I believe will deliver the best long-term benefits to my district.”

When we organize, we win! Rush a donation now to fund our work to elect more progressive allies up and down the ballot in these important primary races.

BERNIE ENDORSES ANDY LEVIN

Bernie Sanders joins Our Revolution in endorsing Congressman Andy Levin for re-election in Michigan’s new 11th District.

“Andy Levin is a strong pro-labor voice in Congress and the only Democrat in the race who understands that we have to be a party of the working class,” Bernie said. “He’s not afraid to take on powerful special interests, and I am proud to stand with him.”

Andy said the endorsement is a major development for his people-powered, grassroots campaign. “Bernie defied the polls and shocked the political class when he pulled off a major victory here in Michigan in 2016 because Bernie and his team know how to organize,” Andy said.

Meanwhile, Andy’s opponent Haley Stevens just canceled their joint appearance to speak directly to voters opting for an onslaught of ads instead, paid for by $820K from AIPAC and their far-right funders.

“The right-wing-funded SuperPac has found its newest progressive target in Andy,” Bernie wrote. “Once again, these extremists are pouring in millions into a congressional race to try to ensure the Democratic Party advances the agenda of powerful corporations and the billionaire class.”

Andy remains confident that “with Bernie and our movement, we will send a strong message that Republican billionaires cannot buy a Democratic primary, especially not here in Oakland County.”

Our Revolution is backing Del. Sheila Ruth for re-election to the Maryland State House, District 44B!

In office, Sheila has led the charge in the state for climate action, universal healthcare, juvenile justice, disability, reproductive rights, and much more.

She works hard on the important Environment and Transit Committee to ensure all Marylanders see the environmental, health, and economic benefits of a well-planned transportation system.

Mail-in ballots are out, early voting runs July 7 to 14, and Election Day is July 19th.

Sign up to volunteer with our Phonebank Force to elect progressives like Sheila at every level of government.

Already in 2022, we’ve clinched important progressive wins for Congress with Greg Casar (TX-35), Summer Lee (PA-12), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Jamie McLeod Skinner (OR-5), Andrea Salinas (OR-6), and others — and now we can add Delia Ramirez (IL-3) and Jonathan Jackson (IL-1) to that growing list of allies!

Even as corporate Dems sabotage their own prospects for the midterms, we’re growing our power at every level of government. Let’s build on this momentum and change the composition of power in Washington.

Pitch in here to help us take down the worst corporate puppets before they forfeit what’s left of our democracy to the far right in November!

This 2022 primary season, Our Revolution Phonebank Force has made more than 500,000 phone calls to voters across the country! We’re recruiting as many folks as possible to help us hit that one-million mark and beyond!

Right now, we have shifts for incredible candidates for Congress like Brittany Ramos-DeBarros (NY-11), Andy Levin (MI-11), David Segal (RI-2), Melanie D’Arrigo (NY-3), and many others!

“Our crew is there to help every step of the way, and it’s amazing to see our collective impact on these races,” said lead caller Amanda Walker. “This is how we turn the tide against big money – and it’s fun!”

TAKING ACTION FOR ABORTION RIGHTS

Our Revolution and our allies on the frontlines are ramping up pressure on Democrats to ACT and it’s working. On Thursday, President Biden announced his support to change the filibuster to codify abortion rights!

Our endorsed candidate for US Congress in NY-3, Melanie D’Arrigo, was arrested at an action Thursday for civil disobedience in front of the Supreme Court, protesting its radical ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.

Our Revolution has been in rapid response, holding actions to call for political leaders to defend abortion rights ever since the Court leaked their intent — and we’re not stopping.

This weekend, Our Revolution hosted two more events - this time in Red Bank and Hillsborough, NJ - and our members joined many more demonstrations across the country.

“It felt great to see many people of all different walks of life come out and express their views to help us support a human’s right to choose,” Our Revolution Hillsborough President Didier Jimenez told CentralJersey.com.

Andrea spoke at a press conference Wednesday organized by Planned Parenthood Action NJ on the horrifying ramifications of the Court’s decision on the rights to contraception, gay marriage, bi-racial relationships, and others.

“We can’t regress and lose all the rights that women, minorities, and immigrants have worked so hard to earn over the decades,” Andrea said. She was joined by NJ Assemblymembers Sadaf Jaffer and Raj Mukherji, cosponsors of a bill to expand abortion rights in the state.

We refuse to just watch in horror as women’s healthcare, human rights, and basic autonomy are decimated. Join our fight right now to help our movement stem the tide of fascism.

CALLING OUT SENATOR SCHUMER

BRING ANTITRUST BILLS TO A VOTE!

The Washington Post reported on our actions with Fight for Our Future demanding Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) bring our antitrust bills for a vote ASAP.

“Amazingly these bills have support in the Senate, we just need Democratic leaders to ACT,” Our Revolution Long Island organizer Joe Sackman spoke at the demonstration. “Big Tech companies are monopolizing digital markets and the online economy — we’ve got to open the gates.”

Protestors chanted: “Hey Chuck: Lead, or Get Out of the Way!”

The American Innovation and Choice Online Act and the Open App Markets Act would enable fair competition on Big Tech platforms and ban self-dealing. This is a start to taking back democratic control from these behemoths.

You can take a quick and simple action to kick off this fight! CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW and tell them you want these two important bills passed!

VICTORY! Our Revolution-NYPAN leader Maria Ordoñez won a competitive race to fill a seat on the NY State Democratic Committee on Tuesday!

Through direct voter outreach, our movement powered Maria to victory, and she isn’t the only one! Our Revolution-NYPAN candidates won 6 of 7 races for the state committee — and got Sarana Purcell over the finish line for District Leader in AD43.

A second NY Primary will be held on Aug. 23rd for U.S. Senate candidates and U.S. House candidates like Melanie D’Arrigo (NY-3) and Brittany Ramos-DeBarros (NY-11). Stay tuned for our next voter guide!

BIG TECH: CALL SENATORS

Two bills to bust up Big Tech monopoly power are heading to the Senate - and our voices can tip the scales to get them passed. And, we need YOU to make a quick call to your Senators and join our call team reaching out to others to do the same!

Our Revolution phone banker Amanda Walker is from Washington State, home to Big Tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon, and she is living the effects of concentrated corporate power and wealth.

“The rent is soaring, and it’s getting harder to live here,” Amanda said. “So I called my senators, and now I’m making calls to other people asking them to do the same.”
