The January 6th House Select Committee has already presented a MASSIVE amount of evidence that Donald Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election.
But only the Department of Justice (DOJ) and other law enforcement entities can act on these shocking findings, hold Trump accountable, and defend this country from his authoritarian power grabs.
The revelations that came out of the Select Committee’s first public hearing last Thursday were nothing short of astonishing. [1]
We learned that Trump did nothing to discourage the violent insurrectionists as they attacked the Capitol on January 6th, despite pleas from his inner circle – and that he even privately supported their calls to hang then-Vice President Mike Pence. [2]
And at this past Monday's hearing, the Committee presented HOURS’ worth of evidence that Trump, his cabinet, and his family members knew he absolutely lost the 2020 election. [3] This, however, didn’t stop Trump from spreading his dangerous and incendiary Big Lie.
After just two of the Select Committee’s several public hearings (with a third taking place today), the case against Trump is already overwhelming. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the DOJ must not let the Committee’s important work go to waste – and act swiftly on this mountain of evidence.
Much of the DOJ’s work is done confidentially – so there may be efforts underway that the public doesn’t know about yet.
But whether or not this is the case, Attorney General Garland needs to hear that we’re counting on his department to protect our democracy from Trump’s authoritarian agenda.
I hope you’ll join me in demanding action,
