Travelers Insurance is one of the three biggest insurers for oil and gas companies in the world. But it tries to market itself as a green company. Last week, investors took an important first step toward reining in Travelers’ support for destructive fossil fuels by approving a proposal for the company to report on how it is reducing emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. However, a proposal calling on Travelers to end support for new coal, oil, and gas projects was not approved — even though ending that support is crucial for avoiding climate chaos. So it’s up to us to ramp up the pressure and convince Travelers to end support for new fossil fuel projects that are escalating deadly climate disasters.
