My plan for rising costs

Katie Porter for Congress

We’re all seeing our expenses go up–at the gas station, in the grocery store, and when picking up a prescription. But rising costs aren’t new. They’ve been increasing for years, as greedy Big Oil and Big Pharma companies go unchecked and serious flaws in our system allow things like college, childcare, and housing to cost more and more.

That’s why I spent much of 2021 fighting to pass the Build Back Better Act, a comprehensive piece of legislation that would have lowered the cost of things like prescription drugs and childcare and would have really helped families.

Because of Republican (and some Democrats) opposition in the Senate, it never became law.

But just because Congress couldn’t get it done doesn’t mean families stopped dealing with these issues. If Congress can’t tackle a problem one way, then we need to try another way.

That’s why the Congressional Progressive Caucus just released a list of executive orders that we’re urging the Biden Administration to enact. By signing executive orders that will lower the cost of things like healthcare, reduce fossil fuel dependence, and forgive student loan debt, we can put more money into working people’s pockets and strengthen our economy. Sign on to my petition to show your support.

I was elected to Congress to make life better for Orange County families. Just because our initial legislation to lower costs didn’t become law, does not mean I’ve stopped seeing the problem or am giving up.

Thanks for being a part of Team Porter, your support helps fuel my work!
