F cheer. F everything.

Cheerleading and Student Free Speech (+ the Ancient Greeks) | LET’S CONNECT

Brandi Levy was 14 years old when she posted eight words on Snapchat -- during a weekend and off campus -- that got her suspended from her school's cheerleading team. Brandi sued the school district for violating her right to free speech, and her case went all the way to the Supreme Court. In this episode, we connect Brandi's case to the future of free speech rights for all students.

"Fuck school. Fuck cheer. Fuck softball. Fuck everything."

That's what our client posted on Snapchat. It was outside of school, on the weekend, and it got her kicked off of the cheerleading team. Should a school be able to discipline speech that happens outside of the school environment like this?

The ACLU recently argued "no way" at the Supreme Court in B.L. v. Mahanoy Area School District – and now it's up to the Justices to make a ruling.

While we wait, you can get a full rundown on this critical case in the latest episode of our "Let's Connect" video series on YouTube. In 7 quick minutes, learn the impact that the Court's decision could have on young people's free speech rights nationwide – and the important history of student free speech from Ancient Greece to the Vietnam War to now.

Watch the video today – and we'll keep you posted on news from SCOTUS up ahead.

For the right to speak freely,
