POLITICO: Capitol rioters won't face jail time

 

POLITICO: “Many of those who invaded the halls of Congress on Jan. 6 are likely to get little or no jail time.”   Defenders of the Capitol rioters are now playing off the deadly insurrection as a peaceful protest against the government -- and it's working. According to POLITICO, most of the members of the pro-Trump mob won't face any consequences for storming the Capitol building, threatening to kill lawmakers, or disrupting our electoral process. And you know as well us that our courts would set a dangerous precedent by letting them walk free.   Thomas Cadwell, just one of the hundreds of right-wing Oath Keepers who stormed the Capitol on January 6 told his allies that “if we'd had guns I guarantee we would have killed 100 politicians.” The insurrectionists knew what they were doing -- and now they want to frame their actions as a peaceful protest.   But for Trump and his allies, the release of Capitol rioters plays right into Trump's narrative that “right from the start, it was zero threat.”   Our justice system can't keep allowing white nationalists to easily re-enter our society. This goes to show that our fight to end Trump's legacy of extremism is far from over.   The fact is that THOUSANDS of white supremacists have been emboldened by Trump, and as long as his cronies still hold office, white nationalists will continue to feel safe carrying out their plots. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and Madison Cawthorn are just some of these extremists up for re-election in 2022 -- and now that insurrectionists are getting to walk off scot-free, it's more important than ever that our country shows it will not tolerate white nationalism, and that means first getting it out of our government.   2020 showed us that with incredible grassroots support, any election is winnable -- so we're going all in on ensuring these white supremacist-enablers suffer devastating losses at the ballot boxes in 2022.   Unfortunately, we saw these radicals fundraise unbelievable amounts at CPAC, and Trump is already organizing more rallies, so we know we're far behind in the race to win 2022.
