CROOKS

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress

This week, Donald Trump issued another round of presidential pardons — to white-collar criminals, insider traders, and corrupt politicians.
The common thread for most of them? Fox News. Anchors and family members took to the airwaves to advocate for clemency — and Donald Trump listened.
Meanwhile, millions of Americans languish in prison for low-level drug offenses, even in states where those substances are now legal. Many sit in jail because they can’t afford cash bail and are pressured into plea deals regardless of guilt.
Neither Donald Trump nor these white-collar criminals should be above the law. Sign your name to condemn these pardons right now »

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the people Trump thought deserved some leniency:
  • Former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik, who lied to the federal government and committed tax fraud.
  • Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who demanded a $50,000 political contribution from the CEO of a children’s hospital in exchange for state funding for pediatric doctors.
  • Financier and billionaire Michael Milken, the face of insider trading in the 90s.
  • Paul Pogue, a construction company owner whose family donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Trump’s campaign.
We’re sure that Donald Trump sees a little of himself in all of these pardons, but that’s not good criteria to let all of them off the hook. Sign your name to condemn these pardons and send a clear message that Trump and his loyalists shouldn’t be above the law.
The insidious reality of these pardons is clear: Trump is trying to desensitize us to high-profile pardons and pave the way for even more of them.
If he gets away with it, then everyone in his administration will know that they can break the law with impunity, because Donald Trump will have their back. That would be destructive to our democracy, which is why we have to take a stand.
Thanks for all your help,
