Man arrested, held without bail for threatening to kill Rep. Pramila Jayapal

Former senior U.S. official John Bolton admits to planning attempted foreign coups
While trying to white wash his party's attempt to violently overthrow our democracy, America's notorious war criminal bragged about his expertise at toppling governments abroad. Because why would a party that loves to violently overthrow governments scheme to violently overthrow a government?

President Biden has recently taken limited executive action to help abortion-seekers, but legislators and activists are calling for more. His executive orders calls for an access-focused task force, protection for those seeking abortion out-of-state, and to encourage private attorneys to work pro bono to offer representation to patients and providers risking arrest. However, there has yet to be specific steps or delegations announced — simply intent.
We need bold, innovative action on abortion access, and we needed it planned out the second that the Supreme Court released their draft opinion. The overturning of Roe v. Wade has placed the lives of birth-givers throughout the country at risk the minute the gavel fell, subjecting those in red states to extremist trigger laws with the goal of forcing unwanted and dangerous pregnancies. It’s beyond inhumane and frankly, we need President Biden to do MUCH more. Whether it’s removing the remaining FDA restrictions on abortion pills or giving a more thorough action plan, time is running out to protect reproductive healthcare throughout the country.
Write President Biden and urge him to do more to protect the right to abortion!
While things might seem bleak, the fight isn’t over yet. You can still currently receive abortion aid via mail in most states, and financial aid is available if you cannot afford your care. While acquiring and using abortion pills may come with legal risk, widespread access to such resources is crucial for women under attack from crusading conservatives. While abortion is being attacked by conservatives, we are lucky to have abortion funds and activists who have been building resources in preparation for this possibility.
What at first felt like a terrifying possibility is now a grim reality for half the country, and we can’t wait for our legislators to take the lead. It has never been more crucial to join the fight. Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing your members of Congress, your voice is needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here; states with conservative legislatures — Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana, in particular — are in dire need of support in the face of unrelenting attacks on women’s healthcare.
Write President Biden and demand a comprehensive action plan to protect abortion access!
PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition to tell the Justice Department to charge Trump for the dozens of crimes he's committed, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

I'm reaching out today to talk about why this campaign is so different. It comes down to one word: decency.
Like you, I've been shocked and dismayed by how vulgar and mean-spirited our politics have become. I was devastated to learn of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Leaders should work to unite us around policies that will help everyone, not divide and distract us. And I know from experience that it starts at the top.
Every day I strive to live according to The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
That's why I'm standing up to Ron DeSantis, and I'm standing up for Floridians. Florida deserves somebody who will fight for our shared values. If you agree, I hope you'll join me in this effort by donating whatever you can to bring back decency in our state.
The truth is, self-serving politicians try to divide us so that we don't realize how much we actually agree on. But after talking to people across the state, I can promise you — Floridians agree on a lot.
★ We support common-sense gun reform to put an end to the terrible mass shooting.
★ We support women's autonomy over their own bodies.
★ And we overwhelmingly support following the science to guide us out of the COVID-19 pandemic instead of spreading anti-vaccine conspiracy theories.
Unfortunately, Governor DeSantis doesn't agree with the vast majority of Floridians on these issues. That's why it's so critical that we send new leadership to Tallahassee.
I've been working hard to talk to as many voters as possible and I've got good news: Our message is resonating. The latest polling from The Listener Group shows we're beating Ron DeSantis.
But running a campaign is expensive and I'm not funded by millionaires and billionaires. I rely on grassroots supporters like you. If you believe in leading with decency, please chip in $5, $10, or $15 today.
With gratitude,

Last month, the radical, out-of-control conservative majority on the Supreme Court released a series of opinions stripping Americans of their rights and the government of its ability to regulate in key areas.
In West Virginia v EPA, the Court severely limited the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to protect the environment — specifically in regulating carbon pollution from coal-powered power plants.
This decision was not only wrong, it comes at the time where we need to be doing as much as possible to fight climate change. Our air is going to be more polluted because of the far-right opinion of six Justices who took the side of polluting corporations over what's best for the people.
There's little doubt that the court will continue to try to restrict the EPA's ability to enforce the regulations put forward in laws like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. On this issue as well as with the right to an abortion, the right to vote, and gun regulation, it's clear that the solution has to be taking power away from this far-right majority.
Thank you,

Anger and concern well up. Anger and concern that are fueled by love for a country that has been violently transgressed. By a president of the United States no less. And with stunning complicity from those who actively participated in an attempted coup, and those who stood by and did nothing while their country teetered on the edge of chaos. Unbelievable. But believe it we must. Because true it is. We struggle to keep the mantra: steady, steady, steady. But in doing so may we follow the lead of the January 6 committee whose methodical, steady — admirably steady — pursuit of the facts has brought into the light a perfidy perhaps unmatched in the modern history of this nation. When one must reach for comparisons to the Civil War to bring context to our current moment, it is to acknowledge the gravity of what we are learning. Another day of hearings, and yet more details in a tableau of rampant law breaking. It is at a scale that is beyond what anyone could have imagined. Those who screamed into the void about what this man did and what he was capable of were often dismissed as histrionic. But even the most outrageous of suppositions have turned out to have been too restrained. The truth now has far outpaced the speculation. And the probability is that we have more to learn. Take the news that ended today’s hearing, that there is new evidence raising questions about witnesses and a Trump telephone call. Did the president of the United States directly engage in witness tampering? It is impossible to be shocked anymore, yet it remains shocking to even have to ask the question. I’ve said something of this nature many times before; it only becomes more accurate with each new revelation. And let us note with emphasis the new revelation that the president indicated that he wanted the U.S. military to seize voting machines as a means of keeping him in power past an election which he had clearly lost. Perhaps if the reality of what took place was less abhorrent we might be able to process it more easily, and thus be less stunned. Can this really be happening? Did all of this really occur? Above all, one question looms for which we must demand answers: Dan Rather @DanRatherJuly 12th 2022 7,391 Retweets43,463 LikesThere must be soul searching at all levels. The cowardice of those who saw this unfold in real time and said nothing is a permanent stain on their characters. Those who would explain it away, or who sought to sabotage this investigation — and that includes almost every elected Republican in Congress — have put their narrow party’s unquenched thirst for power ahead of the country. We must ask: What was happening at the Department of Justice? And what is happening there now? It brings me no joy to include the press as an institution in this tally of systemic breakdown. How could this story have been so widely missed? And is the full scale of it being given enough prominence? A story of this scale and far-ranging nature is bigger than just the White House press corps. Everyone should have been asking questions. It is not too late to dig into it with more investigative journalism. And while doing so, false equivalence should be banished from every newsroom. Let us not forget that President Trump was impeached for what happened on January 6, and in the Senate trial that followed, we didn’t come close to learning the full truth of his actions. The moment passed without sufficient scrutiny. No longer. When this House committee was formed, there was a belief among many that the investigation would shed little that was new for those who had been paying attention. Sort of like crossing t’s and dotting i’s. Yet these patriotic members of Congress, and patriots they all are, have greatly exceeded expectations with professionalism and steely resolve. How stark their example stands in contrast to so many others who were perfectly happy to stay in the shadows in a moment when their country needed them to shed light. Finally, thought turns tonight to the justices on the Supreme Court who claim to be “originalists.” Three of them were appointed by perhaps the most dangerous man to ever have held the office of president. In their decisions blowing up established rights, these justices like to claim to base their rulings on what the Founding Fathers thought. I wonder what those founders would have made of a would-be dictator who sought to use force to overthrow the will of the people in order to set up dynastic rule. Actually, I don’t have to wonder. You can read about it in the Declaration of Independence, and it infuses the U.S. Constitution. It is the words that all of these people swore to uphold and then defiled in a craven play for power over justice and democracy. |
