With the midterms just days away, I sat down with Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and Congressman Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, for an emergency podcast about protecting our elections. Himes told me that lawmakers have been actively war-gaming potential Election Day interference, including scenarios involving Elon Musk, social media misinformation, and even armed groups showing up at polling places. He also revealed that he’s received classified election security briefings as recently as 72 hours ago. Raskin explained the legal protections in place to prevent Trump from interfering with the election. He also previewed potential investigations into Trump’s pardons, including more than $1.7 billion in forgiven restitution and fines, and alleged pardon brokers. But perhaps the most important takeaway was this: They are preparing for potential interference, and they want Americans to have confidence in the voting process.
