Debbie Wasserman Schultz did not take a standalone “vote” on the payday-loan bill in the way some claims describe. In 2015–2016, she co-sponsored (and was listed as such in coverage), while the bill at that stage was referred to a committee rather than being something she cast an actual House floor vote on. PolitiFact The criticism you’re likely referring to was about her position on a bill (H.R. 4018) that would delay Consumer Financial Protection Bureau payday-lending rules and exempt states with comparable payday-lending laws—a stance progressive critics said undermined CFPB efforts. If you drive through lower income neighborhoods, they are filled with these PAY DAY LOAN BUSINESSES that EXPLOIT lower income residents! Always display the cycle and link to the source. She Lied About Who Endorsed Her. Debbie Wasserman Schultz claimed the Black Caucus endorsed her. They didn't. She deleted the page. Elijah Manley is running to stop her. Blue On the Ballot Jul 21 Last week, Debbie Wasserman Schultz got caught. Wasserman Schultz listed the Broward County Democratic Black Caucus as an endorser on her campaign website. The Black Caucus never endorsed her. (They said so publicly.) When the lie was exposed, Wasserman Schultz did not correct it. She did not apologize. She deleted the entire endorsements page from her website. Not the lie. The page. Elijah Manley called it “outright nasty behavior.” He was being generous. The Pattern FL-20 has sent a Black representative to Congress for 34 straight years. The Democratic primary electorate is 51% Black. Every Black leader in South Florida told Wasserman Schultz not to run in FL-20. She ran anyway. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried criticized her publicly. The entire Florida Legislative Black Caucus told her to stay out. Two-thirds of Florida’s Democratic National Committee members signed a statement condemning her move. She parachuted into FL-20 with $2.5 million and 21 years of name recognition. She said: “I know how to stand up for and represent diverse communities.” Who Elijah Manley Is Manley was born in Fort Lauderdale’s Sistrunk neighborhood. One of the most historically Black communities in all of South Florida. Manley grew up in deep poverty. Chronic homelessness. Food insecurity. He knows what it means to go to school hungry. To not know where his family would sleep. He did not leave. As a teenager, he started a landscaping business to help his mother pay bills. At nine years old, Manley watched Barack Obama get elected president. He decided then that public service was what he was for. At 19, after the Parkland shooting, Manley ran for the Broward County School Board. He earned 43,000 votes as a teenager running against adults with money and machines behind them. Manley is 27 years old. He takes no corporate PAC money. “I want people to remember bold and authentic leadership,” Manley said. “I’m running because I’ve been through what people are going through right now. And it’s not that I’ve been through it. I’m actually still going through it.” Why This Matters In a head-to-head, Manley beats Wasserman Schultz 63 to 37 when voters know who the candidates are. The problem is reaching those voters before Wasserman Schultz’s $2.5 million buries him. She faked an endorsement. He earned 43,000 votes at 19.
