In 2025, Calvin Duncan, a wrongfully incarcerated man, who fought for his release by teaching himself law, ran to become New Orleans' criminal court clerk to reform the system that took 30 years of his life and won.
Rather than allow a rightfully elected Black man be sworn in, our far-right Governor passed a law to eliminate the entire position. New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno refused to stand by and called a special election in November to correct the injustice.
Panicked that it would see Duncan’s position restored, our state AG, Liz Murrill, threatened to carry out a coup to remove the mayor from office. Now an arrest warrant has been issued and Murrill will face 16 felony charges for making those threats. |
