Water restrictions in place in Middleboro
The Middleboro Select Board, which also serves as the town’s water commissioners, has restricted outdoor water use as the state deals with drought conditions ranging from mild to critical
Effective immediately, a ban has been placed on non-essential water use.
This ban includes the following:
Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems. Handheld hose watering is permitted.
Washing vehicles, except in a commercial car wash or as needed for operator safety.
Filling swimming pools.
Washing exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks except as needed to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.
All essential water uses for health, safety, livestock and core business functions are allowed.
The restriction is a conservation requirement from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection based on local stream flows and is not a response to an emergency situation.
Anyone violating these water restrictions will receive a warning for the first violation, a $100 fine for the second and a $250 fine for the third and any subsequent violations.
