A 32-year-old Middleboro man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Monday in connection with the town’s second non-fatal stabbing in less than two weeks, the Middleboro Police Department said in a statement.

Brandon Cain was arrested early Monday afternoon, June 1, after police say he stabbed another man during an overnight incident on Miller Street and later tried to flee from arresting officers.

Police were dispatched to a local hospital at about 2:56 a.m. Monday after a man suffering from stab wounds arrived at the emergency room. The victim’s injuries were described as serious but were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

As a result of an investigation, police identified Cain as the suspect. When officers attempted to take Cain into custody at a residence on Southwick Street on Monday, he allegedly tried to escape through a window. Police said officers deployed a Taser before placing him under arrest.

Once in custody, Cain was charged with assault with intent to murder, resisting arrest and five counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police also determined that Cain had four outstanding default warrants on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Wareham District Court.

Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing or the relationship between the suspect and victim.
