I attended PUBLIC HEARINGS during which speakers from communities surrounding
one of that last DIRTY COAL PLANTS, BRAYTON POINT, spoke and explained that
they couldn't go outside with the COAL ASH AIR POLLUTION, elevated ASTHMA
RATES, drinking water contamination and much else.
DIRTY COAL is NOT the future of CLEAN ENERGY!
COAL ASH is dumped in UNLINED PITS that leach into GROUND WATER,
sometimes overflow like the MASSIVE TVA DISASTER.
PLEASE SPEAK OUT & REJECT THE THREATS POSED BY DIRTY COAL!
IT'S TIME TO EMBRACE CLEAN ENERGY!
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just gave the public more time to speak out on its dangerous coal ash rollback. That means we have a new opportunity — but not much time. EPA has extended the public comment deadline on a proposed rule that would weaken oversight of toxic coal ash waste across the country. All comments must now be submitted on or before Monday, June 29, 2026. If finalized, this rule could allow coal plant operators to avoid stronger cleanup requirements, leave leaking coal ash sites in place, and give polluters more room to contaminate groundwater near communities. Speak out now! We can't let EPA put polluters over people. We have to take a stand. Tell EPA to withdraw the proposed rule! Sign the petition! EPA’s mission is to protect the health and well-being of all Americans by ensuring a safe, clean environment. So why is it proposing a rule to weaken oversight of toxic coal waste? Coal waste often contaminates drinking water, waterways, soil, and air with heavy metals like cadmium, arsenic, and mercury. These metals are linked to cancer, neurological disorders, and other adverse health outcomes. EPA's proposed rule would exempt coal waste throughout the country from oversight that protects community health by allowing it to contaminate our drinking water. It would allow leakages within a certain distance of a coal ash pond, effectively creating a permissible zone of contamination, and would allow companies to keep these coal ash ponds functional even if they've been established to be leaking! The current proposal would remove safety standards for coal ash waste, regardless of their location and size, and would no longer regulate them as landfills. It allows local authorities and EPA regional offices the discretion to establish their own criteria for monitoring and cleaning coal ash. SIGN THE PETITION to fight back! Tell EPA to protect public health and the environment by withdrawing its proposed coal pollution rule! EPA has the legal and moral duty to put America's health over corporate profits.
