ICE agent facing charges in Minneapolis shooting
A nationwide warrant and manhunt is in progress to arrest ICE agent, Christian Castro. And ResistMap is a material reason that warrant exists. |
The day after Castro shot Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, one of our analysts pieced together a livestreamed video of the shooting's aftermath and the 911 call that followed. We geolocated the footage to within 200 feet of where the shooting occurred. We redacted the segments that would have compromised anyone's privacy and released the verified evidence to the public. We also filed records requests for Flock surveillance camera footage from the Minneapolis Police Department specifically to prevent this from being quietly buried. Last month, a city-owned security camera released footage that corroborated everything we had documented. It was substantial enough for a prosecutor at the Hennepin County Attorney's Office to file charges. Faced with the proof, ICE Director Todd Lyons has since admitted that Castro and DHS top brass lied about the shooting. This is what ResistMap was built to do. We designed this tool to capture the evidence that official channels either cannot or will not preserve, and to make sure it is airtight enough to matter when the legal fights arrive.
