IMPORTANT ISSUES! THESE ARE NOT SOLICITATIONS
On March 20, Massachusetts received the Black Hole Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Unfortunately, it's nothing to celebrate. In fact, it's a wake-up call that reminds us why CommonWealth Beacon exists.
The Black Hole Award is given annually to "government entities that demonstrate a troubling lack of transparency and disregard for the public's right to know."
Our mission to make government more responsive and effective by providing rigorous coverage of important issues affecting the lives of Massachusetts residents is core to our work. For three decades, we've committed resources to covering the State House while we've watched the news gallery transform from a bustling room with space at a premium to one that reflects, well, a black hole. And we could use your help to go further. |

| | Becoming a CommonWealth Beacon member is much more than a charitable contribution. It's a vote of confidence in the role we play to ensure our government is held to account through original coverage that brings transparency to opaque dealings.
Three decades of connecting the dots on how decisions made by those in power affect the real lives of residents takes time, resources, and a steadfast commitment to doing the important work. We're marking 30 years with a goal of 30 new members, and so far, 19 of you have answered the call. Your support can help us ensure that next year, we don't take home back-to-back awards.
Join us by becoming one of our 30 new members today. |
