DACA recipients -- also known as “Dreamers” -- are deeply woven into our American culture. They are students, healthcare workers, educators, and essential employees who contribute billions to the economy and strengthen communities across the country.

Many were brought to the United States as children through no choice of their own. Having grown up here, they are culturally American -- shaped by U.S. schools, communities, and values, and committed to ideals of freedom, prosperity, safety, and being responsible neighbors.

To qualify for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), they must meet strict requirements, including maintaining a clean criminal record and filing renewal applications on time. Yet, despite doing everything right, government delays in processing their applications, due every other year, can lead to lapses in protection.

Dreamers are placed in jeopardy through no fault of their own. These backlogs can mean losing jobs, driver’s licenses, and stability, or even facing detention or deportation simply because the system has failed to act in time.

Send a direct message to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and USCIS Acting Director Joseph Edlow to demand USCIS take immediate action to end the DACA renewal backlog and process all renewals NOW!

SIGN & SEND

Across the country, many Dreamers continue to comply fully with every requirement, yet they can still fall through administrative cracks. Even if they apply early, as directed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), processing delays can cause their protections and work authorization to expire.

The reality is that immigrant families already face enough uncertainty without being forced to navigate additional, unmanageable barriers created by such inefficiency in the system.

These delays are not isolated bureaucratic issues: they reflect a broader dysfunction within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). To carry out the radical policies of Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, enforcement priorities have increasingly emphasized removing immigrants regardless of their contributions or circumstances.

We’ve seen this inhumane approach play out among the Dreamers as well as other immigrants. In recent months, over 300 DACA recipients have been detained, and nearly a hundred deported despite full compliance with program requirements.

When Dreamers are pushed out due to administrative failure, the harm extends far beyond individuals to the communities that rely on them every day. No one should face deportation because of government delays or backlogs.

Tell DHS and USCIS to clear the renewal backlog immediately and ensure that Dreamers are not punished for the system’s failure to do its job.

Thank you for speaking up for the Dreamers -- and for the rest of us who are lucky to have them in our communities.
