Major Minneapolis Shooting Update: Department of Homeland Security Narrative Falls Apart
Good afternoon. There is a significant update regarding the fatal shooting involving federal officers in Minneapolis earlier today. Below is a comprehensive account of what is known so far, based strictly on confirmed information and firsthand material. Simply put: the Trump Administration’s narrative has fallen apart. The man fatally shot by federal officers has been identified as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, according to sources familiar with the investigation who spoke with the Minnesota Star Tribune. Pretti was 37 years old and had an address listed in south Minneapolis.
At a news conference, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the victim’s identity and said Pretti had no serious criminal history. O’Hara stated that law enforcement records showed only minor infractions, including parking tickets. Law enforcement sources reiterated Saturday that Pretti had no known violent or serious criminal background.
“The video speaks for itself,” O’Hara said. “We have identified this person, a 37-year-old white male and resident of the city. The only interaction that we are aware of with law enforcement has been for traffic tickets, and we believe he was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry.”
Following the shooting, national political figures weighed in. President Donald Trump accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey of “inciting insurrection” due to their criticism of federal immigration enforcement efforts in the state.

Hours after the shooting, the National Border Patrol Council issued a public statement defending the federal agents involved. In a post shared on Twitter, the union blamed what it called false rhetoric from media and politicians for escalating tensions and encouraging confrontations with federal officers enforcing the law.
“When a supposed ‘peaceful’ protester brings a weapon, such as a loaded handgun, and brandishes it, there are going to be severe consequences and repercussions,” the statement said. “We have full confidence that when more facts are revealed, our agents and officers will be shown to have utilized justifiable force in eliminating the threat.”
Several witnesses were transported to the Whipple Building for questioning. The Tribune confirmed that federal immigration officers attempted to order local police away from the scene, but O’Hara refused. He instructed Minneapolis police officers to preserve the scene.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was en route to conduct an investigation. All available Minneapolis Police Department officers have been called into work, with the exception of the overnight shift, and all days off have been canceled.
