BREAKING: ICE Shoots and Kills Citizen and the Department of Homeland Security is Lying About What Happened

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman in south Minneapolis on Wednesday after agents conducting an immigration operation clashed with residents attempting to block them. Federal officials quickly framed the killing as justified. Video footage, eyewitness testimony, and statements from local leaders suggest otherwise. The Department of Homeland Security is lying, and the evidence proves it. Today, the Department of Homeland Security, on Twitter, claimed the woman “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to run over ICE agents, forcing one officer to fire what DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin called “defensive shots.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem went further, labeling the incident “an act of domestic terrorism” and asserting that agents were under attack.

But the available evidence contradicts that account.

Video of the shooting shows an ICE agent standing directly in front of the woman’s vehicle as she attempted to turn around. Instead of moving out of the way, the agent pressed his body against the car, leaned across the hood, and fired multiple shots at point-blank range.

A witness who lives nearby described the shooting in stark terms. Emily Heller told MPR News she woke to shouting outside her home near 33rd Street and Portland Avenue. She said the woman’s car was blocking traffic as part of a protest against federal immigration enforcement.

According to Heller, ICE agents repeatedly yelled at the woman to leave. As she attempted to turn the car around, an agent positioned himself directly in front of the vehicle.

“He pulled out a gun and put it right in — like, his midriff was on her bumper — and he reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times,” Heller said.

After being shot, the woman’s vehicle accelerated roughly 100 feet before striking a utility pole and several other cars. She was later pronounced dead.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey forcefully rejected the federal government’s version of events, saying the video does not show a vehicle being used as a weapon. He described ICE’s presence in the city as destabilizing and dangerous.

“What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust,” Frey said. “They are ripping families apart, sowing chaos in the streets and, in this case, quite literally killing people.”

Frey concluded his remarks with a blunt demand directed at federal immigration agents.

“To ICE, get the f--- out of Minneapolis,” he said. “We do not want you here.”

Members of Congress echoed that condemnation. Rep. Yassamin Ansari said ICE had killed a U.S. citizen and accused the agency of preventing her from receiving medical care.

“ICE just killed a U.S. citizen—allegedly blocking her from medical care and letting her die,” Ansari said. “This is horrifying. ICE is a rogue agency incapable of reform.”

Ansari said she supports Frey’s call for ICE to vacate Minneapolis, underscoring growing outrage over an agency that, critics argue, operates with little accountability while federal officials continue to defend lethal force that video evidence does not appear to justify.

As DHS insists its agent “used his training” and “saved lives,” local leaders, witnesses, and members of Congress are left asking a far more basic question: why an immigration operation ended with a woman dead in the street—and why federal authorities appear determined to deny what the public can plainly see.
