Any Lucía López Belloza is a 19-year-old college student who grew up in Austin. Before Thanksgiving, she planned a trip home to surprise her family — but instead of making her way to Austin, she was shackled and detained at the airport.

Within just two days, Any was deported to Honduras, despite a judge ruling that she should have been allowed to stay in the United States for her due process.

She spoke out about the injustice, and on Sunday, an unmarked vehicle with ICE agents showed up at Any’s family’s home in Austin — to threaten and intimidate them for speaking out. They even attempted to enter their home through the back door.

This was retaliation, plain and simple.

Every single person in this country has the First Amendment right to speak out about their government. No one should be punished for it.

But the Trump administration has other plans. They are targeting a college student’s family because she told the truth about how she was mistreated by her own government.

So I’ve partnered with Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Ed Markey, and Congressman Jake Auchincloss to demand that the Trump administration allow the return of Any to the United States and that the Administration cease threatening her family.

Our taxpayer dollars should keep our communities safe, not fuel Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s dream of deporting every immigrant in America.

I am fighting tooth and nail to defend Any’s family from ICE retaliation, to bring her back home, ensure she receives due process, and to protect every family facing this cruelty. But knowing I have you by my side in this fight will make a big difference. There is power in numbers.
