No Kings is just the beginning

 

Last week, we showed up in full force at the No Kings rally in Southern Pines, and I want you to meet two neighbors who found us on the protest line.  Tom and Mary Lou Bernett.  Mary Lou worked GOP elections for years and Tom served in the Navy. They pulled me aside and said they have had enough of Trump’s strongman garbage and the cowardice that enables it.  They watched Trump try to federalize Guard units for peaceful protests. They watched ICE raids rip through neighborhoods while a White House browbeat networks and flirted with yanking critics off the air. They watched an Insurrection Act drumbeat and talk of turning cities into training grounds. They watched Medicaid cuts, shutdown games that threaten troop pay, and a purge of public health experts in the middle of disease outbreaks. Tom and Mary Lou are done with it. From GOP supporters, to supporters of our campaign that happily told us to share their story with you. This is why we rally and why we organize.  Our campaign is built to do exactly that. We have volunteers in every pocket of the Ninth, canvass crews rolling every evening,  and phone banks humming. We are helping local candidates, because city halls and school boards set the table for everything that comes next. When we lift from the bottom, we win the top.
