Ask the Editor-in-Chief: 8/20/25

MeidasTouch co-founder Brett Meiselas and Editor-in-Chief Ron Filipkowski discuss the key stories the network is focused on and answer your questions in this exclusive series for paid subscribers only

In the latest Ask the Editor-in-Chief, MeidasTouch co-founder Brett Meiselas welcomed Ron Filipkowski back from a brief vacation and wasted no time diving into some of the best questions submitted by you—our incredible subscribers. The conversation covered everything from the GOP’s corrupt gerrymandering schemes in Texas, to South Park’s brutal satire of Donald Trump, to the narcissism on display in Trumpworld offices with glamor shots of themselves.

Filipkowski explained why gerrymandering has poisoned American democracy, creating extremist safe havens where politicians “say and do crazy shit” with no accountability. And while Democrats in states like California and New York have created independent commissions to ensure the creation of fair maps, Ron made it clear: when Republicans openly admit they’re rigging maps to eliminate Democratic seats, Democrats must be prepared to fight back.

The episode also tackled Trump’s bizarre religious posturing, which Filipkowski, who has tracked Trump’s attempts to con evangelicals for years, dismissed as hollow (to say the very least). Trump has never cracked open a Bible, but Ron believes the former president knows deep down that if there’s a God, he’s in trouble. That might explain Trump’s delusional belief that he can barter his way into heaven with an “Art of the Deal” peace plan in Ukraine. As Brett quipped, that ship, or perhaps that Lolita Express, sailed a long time ago.

From the disturbing treatment of Texas State Rep. Nicole Collier, who was essentially kidnapped in the Capitol by Republicans demanding 24/7 police surveillance, to the narcissistic cosplay of Kristi Noem and Pete Hegseth plastering government walls with vanity photos, this Ask the Editor segment didn’t pull any punches.

The best defense against Trump’s authoritarian circus is to spread the truth, far beyond the political bubble, so thank you to everyone who continues to share our reports with your friends and family members.
