The Trump administration has finally released a Honduran family from ICE custody after detaining them for 2 months. Among the family was a 6-year-old boy who had been undergoing treatment for leukemia, who told reporters that he cried himself to sleep every night in detention. The family’s lawyer says that the family had come here legally and had done everything correctly in the immigration process, but neither that fact nor the cancer treatment gave the administration any pause. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains what happened.   Link – https://www.rawstory.com/immigration-... In early May, plain clothes, ice agents were waiting outside of a courtroom where a Honduran family, which included a 6-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter, mother and father, obviously the ice agents were waiting for that family of four to finish their court hearing where they were, you know, had come into this country legally as asylum seekers. They had filled out all the correct paperwork. They did not illegally cross any borders. They had not broken any laws. They were just there as part of their hearing to, you know, become permanent legal residents. Ice agents were waiting outside in plain clothes and they arrested the family and put them in a detention facility for two months. Now, arresting people outside of the, uh, uh, you know, courthouse is pretty illegal, right? It is a violation of these people's constitutional rights. Uh, the lawyer for the family says it's a violation of their fourth and fifth amendment rights. But here's the thing, it's not just that they arrested a family who had committed no crimes at all, not even coming here illegally. Um, they had committed no crimes and they took the kids. It's that the 6-year-old boy has leukemia ice locked a 6-year-old cancer patient in detention for two months where he wasn't able to get treatment for his condition. And I don't know if you yourself have ever, um, you know, dealt with a cancer diagnosis. Two months of no treatment can pretty frequently be a death sentence, but that's what I did. And this particular story, of course, received severe public backlash. So they eventually released them on July 2nd. But let me read you this, this from the family's lawyer. The boy and his nine-year-old sister cried every night in detention. Uh, the government pursued expedited removal while the cancer patient suffered in a Texas detention facility that Biden had shuttered. But Trump reopened the Trump administration's policy of detaining people at courthouses who are doing everything right, who are entirely law abiding, who are trying to fulfill all the requirements that the US government asks of them. It violates our constitution. It violates our federal laws. It also violates our sense of morality. The family had fled Honduras after receiving death threats, applied for asylum through proper channels, waited for permission to enter using a CBP appointment. They never crossed the border illegally. So this particular family, the lawyer says, did everything right, but Trump says they're only getting the worst of the worst. How? Christy Noam said in a Fox News interview this past weekend, it's only the worst of the worst. These are criminals. These are horrible human beings. These are kids with cancer. Now, American history may not go much further than you know, this administration. That may be the end for us, but it's not gonna be the end for world history. People across the globe will be taught what is happening in America today. The same way we are taught what was happening in Germany in the twenties and thirties and forties. Folks, when those people around the globe look back at our history, or maybe hopefully Americans can look back at our history, which side do you wanna be on? Do you wanna be one of those? I was just following orders, people, or do you wanna be a person who stood up and said, my God, they're putting kids with cancer in cages. History will judge you. You need to make your choice now.
