First, thank you.
Because of your support, COURIER had its best grassroots fundraising month ever—with 5,000 online contributions in February alone. That’s 5,000 grassroots supporters who believe in independent journalism’s power to hold the line when corporate media won’t.
I want to share a long but important note about why our work (and your support!) has never been more urgent.
Like many of you, I’ve watched the first month of the Trump administration unfold with a mix of anger and shock—not at what they’re doing (they warned us), but at how quickly they’re dismantling democracy and how unprepared too many Democratic leaders seem to be.
Far-right extremists and billionaire oligarchs like Elon Musk have seized total control of the federal government, gutting institutions and consolidating power. Violent insurrectionists were pardoned. Our closest allies are being pushed aside and replaced with brutal dictators.
America is in crisis—the exact constitutional and existential crisis we feared if Democrats lost.
At the same time, traditional media is in retreat. It reaches fewer Americans than ever and struggles to keep up with the flood of illegal and unconstitutional Trump administration actions—including relentless lawsuits and attacks on the free press.
Most Americans are tuned out, confused, and exhausted. They catch a headline, shrug, and keep scrolling. Maybe they see a slick political ad and change the channel. And when they do seek out real news, they hit a paywall—or simply give up.
Good information is the lifeblood of democracy, but Trump and his allies are counting on apathy and exhaustion to maintain their grip on power.
That’s why COURIER exists.
Our mission is simple: Get fact-based, actionable news in front of Americans where they already are—whether that’s through a TikTok explainer, a swipeable Instagram post, a long-form YouTube conversation, or a must-read newsletter that tells the real story, not Trump’s distractions.
COURIER is one of the only fast-growing, independent media organizations explicitly designed to confront this crisis of disinformation and disengagement head-on.
And unlike corporate media, we will never—and I mean never—bow to a corrupt ruling party intent on stripping Americans of our rights, freedoms, and democracy.
In this urgent moment, COURIER is all in.
We’re exposing what’s really happening in Washington and holding power accountable without fear or favor. We’re covering the MAGA takeover at the state and local level, elevating new voices in the fight for democracy, and calling out both parties when they fail to meet this moment.
And people are paying attention.
Just last week on COURIER’s socials:
- 1.7 million interactions on Instagram.
- Over 7.2 million likes, 800,000+ comments, and 700,000+ shares on TikTok.
People are engaged—because Americans want real journalism that meets them where they are.
In just the past year, COURIER has opened new local newsrooms, built an audience of nearly 6 million people, and become a daily news source for millions of young Americans on TikTok and Instagram. We’ve humanized complex stories, interviewed rising movement leaders, and created content people genuinely want to engage with.
The fight ahead won’t be easy. But thanks to you, we’re in it.
Thank you,
Tara McGowan
