Tell the Senate: Oppose Trump’s nominee for IRS Commissioner and make wealthy tax cheats pay what they owe

 

Under President Biden’s IRS Commissioner, Danny Werfel, we saw real progress toward improving customer service and making the ultra-wealthy and corporations pay more of their fair share in taxes. But Donald Trump’s choice to lead the IRS could roll back this progress and make it harder to crack down on wealthy tax cheats. Tell your senators: Reject Billy Long, Trump’s nominee to lead the IRS, and stand up for tax fairness! Here’s what you need to know about Billy Long: He is a former member of Congress from Missouri who repeatedly sponsored bills to abolish the IRS He also sponsored bills to eliminate the estate tax — a tax that only applies to extremely wealthy estates — and to replace much of the tax code with a flat rate that would allow wealthy Americans to pay a smaller share of their incomes than rest of us And after leaving Congress, he helped businesses use a tax credit that the IRS flagged for its high rate of fraud Under Commissioner Werfel, the IRS focused on improving customer service and holding wealthy tax cheats accountable — recovering over $1 billion. The IRS also created Direct File, a free online tax filing system that during its 12 state pilot last year saved 15,000 eligible taxpayers $5.6 million in preparation fees — and it’s available again right now. Your senators should reject Billy Long and protect the progress that the IRS made under Commissioner Werfel. We deserve an IRS that sides with working people, not the ultra-wealthy and corporations.
