Protests Against Trump Build MomentumPeople are speaking out against his cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrantsOver the last week, protests against Trump have been held all across the country. And to this point they’ve received scant news coverage. We were able to find demonstrations in dozens of states, with many of them forcing authorities to close intersections and highways. In Los Angeles, thousands gathered, before swelling in numbers and marching right onto the 101 Freeway. We saw similar marches in Atlanta and Phoenix, while people rallied outside of City Hall in Dallas. These protests force local leaders and news outlets to confront the issues, and they have a long history of success in our country. From the frigid temperatures of Missoula, Montana, all the way out to sunny West Palm Beach, Florida—people are starting to stand up to Trump’s inhumane deportations, and his cruel treatment of immigrants. This is just one of the ways folks are starting to fight back. Today, countless businesses will be closed to take part in “A Day Without Immigrants,” a nationwide protest that underscores the crucial role immigrants play in the U.S. economy. Some supporting businesses will remain open, and pledge to donate proceeds to advocacy organizations. There have also been hundreds of lawsuits filed challenging Trump’s obscene actions. Some of these court filings temporarily halted his unconstitutional birthright citizenship order. Some Democrats have gotten loud about immigration, and Trump’s rampant corruption. But it’s not nearly enough. So we’ll continue to push all of them to speak out—at a constant—using stronger, and more cohesive messaging. It's clear this is only the beginning of the opposition movement against Trump. So far, corporate media is refusing to give it all the coverage it deserves, so it’s on us to spread the word. We’ve built one of the largest social media followings in politics, and we’ll use it to share this post with millions of people—to make sure we aren’t just preaching to the choir. And our newly-formed Watchdog Coalition already has tens of thousands of members. We’ve made countless phone calls to Congress, and sent more than 137,000 letters to Senators opposing Trump’s 10 worst nominees. As hardworking, independent, pro-democracy journalists, we’ll always go the extra mile to organize folks for the fight against Trump—just like we have for 9 years now. We are 100% funded by our paid subscribers. So if you haven’t yet, and you're able, please become a paid subscriber, so we can do even more: No matter how you subscribe, know that I appreciate your support and everything you do. We must keep up the fight. As long as we stick together, we will get through this. Onward, Scott |
