There is still hard and good work to do

 

Dear friends,

I’m writing to ask that you support the Sunrise Movement, because it’s a crucial part of the fight to keep our planet at a livable temperature.

I’ve had the pleasure over the years of watching the climate movement come of age—perhaps its most important accomplishment in this country was the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, and no group of people had more to do with that than Sunrise. But their work isn’t done.

It will be different under Trump, of course—there’s little chance of another big policy win in DC. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t hard and good work to do. I think that the ever-dropping price of renewable energy means that we have a real shot at powering this country and this world from the sun and the wind in short order.

But only if we push, against the power of the fossil fuel industry. And only if we push together. I’m spending most of my time these days organizing old folks like me—but we at Third Act value nothing more than the chance to work with youth leaders. The interplay between the generations is not just good fun, it’s also one more proof that diversity is always good!

If we want to make sure there’s a strong youth movement, we need to make sure it has the resources required, so that it can concentrate on making good trouble. That’s where you come in; in an uncertain moment like this one, one guaranteed win is simple generosity!
