House Republicans block release of Gaetz report… The secrets of former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who resigned from the House and withdrew from consideration as Trump’s Attorney General, survived a House vote today, as fellow Republicans blocked release of his ethics report. The vote was 206 to 198. Rep. Tom McClintock of California was the sole Republican to side with Democrats in voting to move forward with release of the report. What are they hiding? Were other Republican members of Congress named in the report?
Pete Hegseth sure looks like a goner… We thought we had seen it all, but now Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the entire United States military is so desperate that he has called in his MOTHER to make a plea to women Senators like Joni Ernst who just aren’t that into someone with sexual misconduct charges leading the Department of Defense. That’s right, Trump wants the Pentagon to be led by a man lacking the experience to do so AND whose treatment of women is so poor that his mother said so in 2018. Another day, another batch of “Trumpworld tries to save Hegseth” stories. It’s time to stick a fork in this nomination.
Trump’s labor nominee a potential bright spot in a cabinet of weirdos… Donald Trump’s cabinet looks more and more like a junk drawer, but there’s one bright spot, if the trepidations of Big Business are to be believed. Yes, Trump may actually have a labor secretary – Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) – who is pro-labor. Her record in Congress indicates as much, even if she is a right-winger apart from her pro-worker votes. So naturally Big Business is gunning to fill the rest of Trump’s Department of Labor with nominees who will do their bidding. One ally? Former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA), who Trump appointed to head his Small Business Administration.
NASA again delays moon expeditions… Safety concerns over the Orion crew’s re-entry in the wake of a 2022 test flight’s heat shield malfunction caused another delay in two Artemis moon missions. According to CBS News, “The Artemis program aims to send astronauts to the moon's south polar region where ice deposits may allow crews to one day extract oxygen and hydrogen to produce air, water and rocket propellants that would not have to be carried up, at great expense, from Earth.” The new dates? Around April 2026 for a piloted mission around the moon and mid 2027 for a lunar landing.
