Welcome back to yet another edition of Today’s American News – your evening source for news and analysis on the circus that is American politics and entertainment. Here are the stories you may have missed today:

Biden weighs pardons of those threatened by Trump… Vice President Kamala Harris warned us that Donald Trump would focus on his enemies list once he took office, and it seems President Biden’s top advisors are taking that threat seriously, considering preemptive pardons of those specifically threatened by Trump during the 2024 campaign. Among those two Trump has declared his enemies and threatened with violence or prosecution are Senator-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA), Dr. Anthony Fauci and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). As NBC reports, such pardons would not be without precedent.

Russian plant Tulsi Gabbard to face uphill battle as Trump intel nominee… Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic Congresswoman turned Trump-Putin-Assad apologist, was a scary albeit not unexpected pick for Trump’s top intelligence nominee. Why scary? She parrots Kremlin talking points, for instance blaming the United States for Russia’s full-scale and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, an American ally, and she took it upon herself to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, an ally of Russia and Iran. To say that her loyalties do not lie outside of our country is not an understatement, and allies around the world have expressed trepidations about sharing intelligence with our government if she is confirmed as the Trump Administration’s intelligence chief. Fortunately she’s about to be exposed for who she is. Politico cites “two current and three former GOP Senate aides familiar with discussions over the national security nominations” saying as much.

Health care CEO’s murder in NYC prompts outcry the media didn’t expect… The media has obsessed over the death of a CEO of a major health insurance provider, and within this wall-to-wall coverage, we’ve finally found a story worth sharing. You see: It’s not that we wished this guy dead–far from it. It’s that the media shouldn’t value some lives more than others… AND that health care companies’ denial of coverage for the purpose of making more money for shareholders leads to the deaths of countless ordinary Americans who won’t make corporate media headlines. CNN has a story that highlights this exact point, from the perspective of ordinary Americans themselves. Check it out here. “Almost immediately after news broke that Thompson had been killed, social media users began posting about their frustrations with UnitedHealthcare and other insurance companies,” CNN writes. Yup.

AOC aims to become third next generation Dem leader of a powerful committee… Seniority often rules the day in Congress, but that’s beginning to change in the Democratic House Caucus, and Leader Hakeem Jeffries is letting it happen without putting his thumb on the scale. Same for Leader emeritus Nancy Pelosi. It seems Congressional Democrats are realizing it’s time for a new generation of Leadership. Already, younger Dem members have maneuvered to take over ranking committee posts from septuagenarian counterparts. We brought you news of Congressman Jamie Raskin’s takeover of the powerful judiciary earlier this week. The most recent such challenge comes from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who is taking on a much older Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight committee.
