Multiple major and gut-wrenching updates on Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza came out over the weekend.
First, late last week a UN inquiry found that the Israeli government purposefully targeted and destroyed Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure over the past year, which constitutes a war crime. Remember when Western media and the U.S. government denied Israel would ever bomb a hospital last October?
Second, the Netanyahu administration told Haaretz that it is no longer pursuing talks to free the hostages, and is instead planning to withhold humanitarian aid — more than it already has for the last year, leaving millions of Palestinians at risk of starvation — and annex portions of Gaza. Any of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians who remain in northern Gaza will be starved or killed.
Third, the Israeli military bombed refugee tents outside of a hospital on Sunday, burning children and other Palestinian patients alive — some visibly hooked up to IVs and trapped in their beds. The images documenting this cruel attack are nothing short of horrifying and will be an appalling document of this genocide forever.
So what is the Biden Administration doing about it? It’s violating international law by continuing to send BILLIONS of dollars in bombs and weapons to Israel, and even sending U.S. troops to assist the Israeli military, despite mounting evidence of Israel’s war crimes.
The United States is complicit in genocide and ethnic cleansing, and it cannot continue. Israel has violated international law repeatedly and will continue to do so until Palestinians are completely wiped out, as long as the U.S. enables them.
We cannot look away or become complacent. Our elected officials are enabling and our tax dollars are funding this genocide. We must keep speaking up until our leaders change course and hold Israel accountable for these crimes against humanity.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
