France Street home heavily damaged in fire, no injuries reported
MIDDLEBORO — Two adults and a child escaped without injury after a raging fire early Monday, Oct. 7 devastated their home at 52 France St.
The three occupants had already escaped the blaze when firefighters arrived, Fire Chief Owen Thompson said.
He credited the home’s working smoke detectors with alerting the occupants to the blaze.
The fire was reported at 2:11 a.m. Firefighters got the fire under control in about 90 minutes, Thompson said.
Middleboro firefighters cleared the scene at about 9 a.m., Thompson said.
Tanker trucks from Middleboro, Carver, Plympton and Rochester provided water supply due to a lack of hydrants in the area, Thompson said.
Firefighters from Lakeville, Halifax and Bridgewater assisted on scene, the chief said, while West Bridgewater firefighters provided station coverage.
No cause was immediately identified.
The occupants went to stay with family. Thompson suspects the home is a total loss.
