This is not satire, but it is still pretty funny

Republicans like to say that Democrats are out of touch with "real" America, and as such should not run the country. You have definitely heard this argument, or some close variation on it, many times.

It kind of makes you wonder who Republicans think represent real America, and thus who should run it.

I figure one way to check this is to see who Republicans are actually trying to elect and get to run the country.

Turns out the answer is, without satire, ultra-rich dudes.
 From Politico:
Republicans are looking for Senate candidates who are filthy rich

Senate Republicans have landed on a plan to avoid getting swamped by Democratic cash again next year: Find candidates whose bank accounts are already loaded.(...)

“In politics as in life, money doesn’t buy happiness, but poverty doesn’t buy a damn thing,” said Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-La.). “So if you’ve got a candidate who can self fund, you can spend your money elsewhere.”
Again, I am not making this up. This is not The Onion. This is real. Republicans, famously the party of "real" America, have gone out of their way to recruit self-funding arch millionaires to run the country.

In four of the seven most important Senate races this year, Republicans succeeded in their goal. They recruited Tim Sheehy in Montana (CEO worth as much as $200 million), Bernie Moreno in Ohio (car dealership owner worth as much as $168 million), David McCormick in Pennsylvania (hedge fund manager worth as much as $200 million) and Eric Hovde in Wisconsin (financial executive worth at least $67 million).

Now, I don't know about you, but I don't actually know anyone worth $100 million. In fact, I am willing to venture that people worth $100 million do not, in fact, represent real America, and instead mostly just represent their own bottom lines.

To fight back against the attempted Republican takeover of government by arch-millionaires, I have set up an Act Blue page where you can donate to the Democratic nominee in all four of the states where Republicans recruited an uber-wealthy self-funder. The four Democrats in question are are Sens. Jon Tester of Montana, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. All four are real, down to earth people–not to mention good Democrats in must-win races–with a track record of delivering for their constituents, not their own bottom lines.

Please, split a $10 donation to Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, Tammy Baldwin and Bowers News Media PAC. Help Democrats in must-win races defeat the arch-millionaires and keep control of the U.S. Senate in the hands of real people.

Donate $10
