I’ve lost track in that delightful way that happens when you’re on vacation. Bob and I are spending a little time here with some dear friends and recharging our batteries. That means that before I saw Kamala Harris’ utterly immaculate acceptance speech, in the middle of the night here, we saw something called The Royal Tattoo, an insanely beautiful display of traditional military music with some very modern twists. Think Bollywood. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Something that fascinated me was that in a very decidedly international crowd, the Stars and Stripes drew big cheers. The world seems to be gaining confidence that when Joe Biden said America was back, he meant it. I’ll still be around, even though we’re away, but perhaps posting a little less often for the coming week. Expect to hear from me with The Week Ahead Sunday night, even if you only get photos of us hiking up north, which is where we’re headed next. Our grown kids are home with cats, dogs, and chickens, so, even odds on whether we go home to a clutch of eggs waiting to hatch, which seems to happen every time we take a real vacation. Last night, America got to see one of my favorite people speak at the convention. Alabama’s favorite son, Shomari Figures, is running for Congress in Alabama’s newly configured District 2, the one created when even the Supreme Court took a look at gerrymandering in Alabama saw racial discrimination.
