After a politically tumultuous week in the U.S., President Joe Biden made his way to the Texas capital on July 29, 2024. The trip was previously planned for July 15, 2024, but was postponed following an assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump just two days prior. On July 23, 2024, the White House announced President Biden's plans to visit Austin on July 29, 2024, where he commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act at the LBJ Presidential Library. The announcement came after the president formally announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race. "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," President Biden shared in a statement.
