KATIE PORTER: Big Tax-Prep lobbyists are having a busy summer

Katie Porter for Senate

The process of filing your taxes usually sucks. And that’s not by accident.

Big tax-prep companies have spent years lobbying Congress so that you, the taxpayer, have to shell out big bucks, hours of your Saturday, and all of your personal data, in order to file your taxes.

But in most cases, the IRS already has all of the information they need to process your tax liability or refund. That’s why Katie introduced a bill to create free and easy tax filing tools that anyone can use.

Here’s the good news: Next year the IRS is piloting a free tool that will allow folks to file directly with the government. But these massive tax-prep companies are lobbying against it.

Katie’s calling out their corporate greed and their attempt to rob taxpayers of a free and easier to use option.

Can you add your name in support of Katie’s work standing up to these profiteering corporations?

No matter the industry, Katie will always fight for consumers and stand up to the status quo. She’s not afraid to call out corporate greed and influence because she’s one of just eleven Members of Congress who doesn’t take federal lobbyist money.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for being a part of Team Porter.
