It seems nowadays that we’re in one neverending election cycle. It can be easy to forget sometimes why elections matter and the concrete impact they have.
When Democrats win, they fight for working families and protect our fundamental rights.
- Democrat Governor Tim Walz enacted universal free breakfast and lunch for all students at participating schools in Minnesota.
- After winning a Democratic trifecta in Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer repealed the state’s abortion ban that had been on the books for over 90 years.
- Democrat Governor Andy Beshear vetoed anti-trans legislation in Kentucky.
When Republicans win, they work to restrict the rights of vulnerable communities.
- The GOP-dominated legislature in Kentucky overrode Governor Beshear’s veto and banned gender-affirming care.
- The Republican-controlled House in Tennessee expelled two Black Democrats for simply joining a peaceful demonstration in the wake of the recent school shooting in Nashville.
- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law banning abortion at 6 weeks–before many people even know they’re pregnant.
Every election matters and has a real impact on the lives of folks around the country. That’s why we have to keep doing the work, electing Democrats, and fighting for what’s right.
Thanks,
Peter
