Earlier this year, President Biden nominated Julie Su to lead the Department of Labor. After the recent departure of her predecessor, Marty Walsh, Su has been leading the department as acting secretary. Now she’s waiting for a Senate confirmation vote. As the former California secretary of labor, Julie Su fought tirelessly to combat wage theft, worked hard to advance equal pay, and ensured workers had access to family and medical leave. As deputy secretary, Su’s leadership has been instrumental in helping steer the country's economy back on track for working people. For May Day, we are calling on senators to support Julie Su. She is more than qualified and ready to lead the department. And workers are in desperate need of a leader who will fight for their rights, advocate for stronger worker protections, and work to build a more just and equitable society.
The Department of Labor plays a key role in protecting this country’s workforce and promoting women’s economic security. Su has a proven track record of delivering on policies that help women and families—policies that help close the gender wage gap, remove barriers to women’s employment opportunities, challenge sex discrimination, raise wages, allow women to meet caregiving responsibilities, and ensure women’s health and safety so they can continue to support their families.
