Spring is upon us and we have a bevy of Park Bench Chats to celebrate the changing season and ensure that everyone has access to the benefits and joys of the outdoors. Sign up for an upcoming event.    The Policy Roadmap to Parks for All April 12, 11 a.m. (PT) / 2 p.m. (ET) Trust for Public Land and Next City host a conversation between 10-Minute Walk champions Mayor Mattie Parker of Fort Worth, TX, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, LA, and College of Charleston Professors Dr. Morgan Hughey and Dr. Kendra Stewart. TPL and the College of Charleston will unveil their nationwide policy scan to help city leaders address and reduce the outdoor equity gap that affects more than 100 million people—including 28 million children—who do not have a park within a 10-minute walk from home. Our panel will also explore a variety of park solutions to address park access gaps and leverage parks to create healthy, thriving, equitable cities.  Register Today Heroism Starts at Home April 19, 12 p.m. (PT) / 3 p.m. (ET)    TPL Community Strategies lead Cary Simmons will moderate a Park Bench Chat with three inspiring individuals who have answered the call to make their communities happier, healthier, and more resilient by leveraging parks and green space to improve their neighborhoods and encourage deep local engagement and activism.   The featured guests include Equipo Verde volunteer Sonia Rodriguez, who turned a dangerous, polluted alleyway into her community’s source of pride; Mantua Civic Association President De’Wayne Drummond, whose organization has long leveraged the 37th and Mt. Vernon Playground in West Philly as a platform for food and voter drives and keeping residents informed on issues affecting their neighborhood; and, Parque Padrinos Co-Founder Teresa Bendito who fights for park access as well as immigrant rights in her community of Wenatchee, Washington.
