The idea of an ethics complaint from anything related to Donald Trump — especially the super PAC he uses for laundering money — is hilarious in and of itself. But when it's directed at Ron DeSantis? That's a spicy meatball! Trump's lawyers have accused DeSantis of running an illegal “shadow presidential campaign" while not officially announcing his run for the White House, which would force him to resign from the governor's office under Florida state law. Of course, it'll go nowhere, since DeSantis appointed most of the board that would investigate the complaint. But it's great to see Trump turn up the heat on his rival. Tear each other apart!

The Biden administration is explicitly demanding that Chinese-owned TikTok be sold, or the popular video app could face a ban in the US, according to a TikTok spokesperson. Whether federal officials have given TikTok a deadline to find a buyer remains unclear — as is whether or not Chinese authorities would even be willing to sell their nation's first major social media hit — but, regardless, it's a major escalation by White House officials who have grown increasingly concerned about the safety of consumer data on the app used by more than 100 million Americans.

Trump judge appears sympathetic to banning abortion pills in consequential Texas hearing
Trump's justices on the Supreme Court stripped reproductive healthcare freedom from Americans at the federal level — and now another Trump judge appears set to ban our ability to have access to safe abortion healthcare in the privacy of our own home. Several dark-money billionaires masquerading as a grassroots coalition of anti-abortion groups are pressing US District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk to pull mifepristone pills off the market until an overarching demand to ban them entirely is resolved, which he is probably going to do because he can. Never mind that mifepristone has only been used safely for OVER TWO DECADES and there's ZERO precedent for banning a medicine like this. Our judiciary loses more credibility with every ridiculous right-wing activist lawsuit that gets immediately rubber-stamped regardless of precedent or argument legitimacy.

Rand Paul throws tantrum, walks out of hearing after Democrats block his stupid amendments
Democrats had no intention of entertaining the crank Republican's ridiculous anti-vaccine and COVID-19 conspiracy amendments to the Fire Grants and Safety Act, so they just undid them with their own amendments — prompting a meltdown from Rand Paul. “That doesn’t make any sense! This is legislative legerdemain to obscure the fact that you’re trying to not vote directly on this!" whined Paul, who then left the room in a huff after failing to convince other Republicans to join him. Ironic that Paul would complain about "legerdemain" — a nerd word for sleight of hand — since he was the sole crackpot in that hearing peddling economic parlor tricks and snake oil.

Nebraska Democrat is 3 weeks into a filibuster over an anti-trans bill
There's a new hero on the block, and her name is state Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh, who has been filibustering over an anti-trans bill in the Nebraska state legislature for over THREE WEEKS. “If this Legislature collectively decides that legislating hate against children is our priority, then I am going to make it painful — painful for everyone. I will burn the session to the ground over this bill!" declared Cavanaugh, who has been doing her damndest to do just that. It's these little acts of defiance that mean so much to trans people around the country, and it's more important than ever that we remind them that they are not alone in this fight against Republican bigotry.
Former Kentucky federal prison lieutenant convicted of covering up assaults by his staff
In a very on-the-nose demonstration of how abuse is tolerated and condoned up the chain at every level of law enforcement, a federal jury found Bureau of Prisons Lieutenant Kevin Pearce guilty of falsifying reports covering up the brutal assault of an inmate by his subordinates because the victim was "walking to his cell too slowly." Those same corrections officers also admitted to beating a white inmate who affiliated with Black gangs because he was a "race traitor."

If you want to see how a real progressive party acts, take a good look at Michigan, which has immediately put its trifecta control of state government to use delivering immediate and meaningful results for working families — like voting to amend the state’s civil rights law to ban workplace, housing, and other forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, enshrining the right to an abortion, repealing the state's right-to-work law, proposing tax credits for union dues, advancing gun safety measures, expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit...you name it! We need to see this kind of energy and drive to turn the Democratic agenda into reality in EVERY state that — and yes, we're looking at YOU, New York.
7 Virginia sheriff’s deputies charged with 2nd-degree murder in death of Black man smothered while in custody
SEVEN sheriff’s deputies in central Virginia were arrested and charged with second-degree murder Tuesday for fatally smothering 28-year-old Irvo Otieno while in custody at a state mental health facility. The atrocity was captured on video, which Dinwiddie County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ann Cabell Baskervill described as "deliberate," "cruel," and "extremely alarming."

Today’s Action: Register voters for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election next month!
Abortion rights are taking center stage once again, this time in Wisconsin, where progressive voters have a chance to flip control of the state Supreme Court and help restore equitable access to reproductive healthcare. Securing Democratic seats on the state’s high court could spell the end of the current, near-total abortion ban that’s been on the books since 1849. And since Republican gerrymandering in Wisconsin is some of the most egregious in the country, this may be our best chance at restoring reproductive rights for marginalized people currently being denied equitable access to care.
While progressives have managed to deliver a string of recent statewide abortion-rights victories in the wake of last summer’s disastrous SCOTUS ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, we must be steadfast in our pursuit to restore and preserve access to abortion care to the millions of folks living in Republican-dominated red states. The battle for reproductive healthcare is raging, and we must stand ready to fight.
