Daily Dose of Democracy:
Trump turns memorial for late, right-wing personality Diamond into campaign speech — and complains the service was too long
The disgraced ex-president showed up at the memorial service over the weekend for Ineitha Lynnette Hardaway, better known as “Diamond” of the pro-Trump duo Diamond and Silk, and predictably hijacked the event, complaining about the length of the service and — why not — stumping for his re-election campaign in a meandering, cringeworthy "tribute" to the late Hardaway.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: George Santos finally admits to his biggest lie
The problem isn't that Santos dressed up in drag, the problem is the abject hypocrisy of Santos advocating for a political party that demonizes LGBTQ rights and dehumanizes LGBTQ people.

Supreme Court claims justices "actively cooperated" in leak probe that yielded nothing
After the inconclusive and largely performative investigation into the leaked draft opinion striking down Roe, Supreme Court Marshall Gail Curley claimed to have spoken with each of the court’s justices but conveniently did not demand they sign an affidavit. Shocking that we still don't know if Alito or Thomas leaked the draft!
Take Action: Tell Biden and the Senate to fill the courts with Democratic judges!
Gunman in Lunar New Year massacre found dead; 2nd dance club attack thwarted by 26-year-old man
72-year-old Huu Can Tran was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday in the van that authorities say he used to flee after being prevented from attacking another dance club. 26-year-old Brandon Tsay, whose family runs the second venue, prevented further bloodshed by wrestling the gun from the assailant, who immediately fled the scene. Saturday's massacre was the fifth mass shooting in the United States this year.
White House takes executive action to help protect medication abortion
On the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision, the White House took executive action to protect medication abortion in the face of unrelenting right-wing attacks on reproductive healthcare at the state level. Vice President Kamala Harris announced President Biden’s decision to sign a presidential memorandum during a speech in Florida, where she spoke about the next steps in the fight for reproductive rights and to commemorate what would and should have been the golden anniversary of the high court’s decision legalizing abortion at the national level.
Take Action: Tell the DOJ to challenge EVERY abortion ban in the country!
Trump’s MAGA forces threaten to upend vote for RNC chair
The Republican National Committee is hoping to resolve a bitter leadership feud that has exposed perilous divisions within the institution charged with helping elect the next GOP president. Friday’s secret ballot could get even uglier as challengers aligned with the disgraced ex-president's MAGA movement, including Trump lawyer Harmeet Dhillon and MyPillow guy Mike Lindell (seriously), threaten to upend RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel’s reelection bid.
FDA considers major shift in COVID vaccine strategy
The FDA's goal is to simplify vaccination against COVID and perhaps adopt an approach similar that used for the flu vaccine, with annual updates to match whatever strain of the virus is circulating.
Progressives rip Biden's choice for next chief of staff, Jeff Zients
Reports that President Joe Biden has chosen Jeff Zients to replace outgoing White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain were met with alarm among progressive watchdogs, who pointed to Zients' rocky tenure as the administration's coronavirus czar as well as his history in the corporate world — where he built a fortune investing in bloodsucking healthcare companies accused of millions of dollars worth of Medicare fraud.

Today’s Action: Tell Congress to raise the debt ceiling!
The virulently anti-Biden GOP seems dead set on fighting against literally any legislative progress whatsoever, and apparently, they’re willing to tank the US economy in the process. Republicans are once again refusing to raise the debt ceiling — a move they never mind making when they control the White House, it should be noted. Their latest demands include extreme cuts to crucial social programs, and the standoff could wreak havoc on both the American and larger global economies. The longer House Republicans stall, the more damage they will exact on the faith and credit of the US government.
During a recent speech at the White House, President Biden rightfully pointed out that approximately a quarter of all US debt amassed over the past two centuries accrued during Trump’s single term in office. In just four years, Republicans willfully exploded our national debt, lifting the debt ceiling three separate times in the process. But now, with their razor-thin House majority running in full obstruction mode against President Biden, they’ve suddenly rediscovered their zeal and affinity for fiscal responsibility. Just another example of the sheer selfishness of today’s GOP, putting party politics above the American people once again.
House Republicans have a duty to their constituents to protect the US economy from collapsing instead of throwing millions of jobs down the drain. We need our elected officials investing in the American people, not playing political games at our expense. Call (202-224-3121) or write your representatives and demand they raise the debt ceiling immediately!
