Five key legal changes needed to fight the climate crisis

Free Donziger

I write this letter as an expression of gratitude. As many know, on “Giving Tuesday” a generous donor agreed to match all donations up to $25,000. In two days, you delivered almost everything we asked for in terms of reaching our goal.

That goes to show that our movement to hold Chevron accountable for its environmental destruction is growing stronger. I also want to fill you in on some recent gains in our battle to protect our planet.

First, you might know by now that The Guardian has given me a monthly column. This is an incredible opportunity to write from a high-profile platform about a variety of climate justice and human rights issues.

My most recent column included a list of my “Top Five” legal changes needed to more effectively address the climate crisis. You can check out the full article here.

Second, I recently had the opportunity to interview climate scientist Peter Kalmus about COP27 and the importance of “disruptive activism” to force governments to address the climate crisis. Peter works for NASA and is also the author of the award-winning book, Being the Change: Live Well and Spark a Climate RevolutionYou can listen to our conversation here.

With the COP27 talks floundering, climate scientist Peter Kalmus ( @climatehuman ) discusses how "disruptive activism" might be our last chance to end fossil fuels and save the planet. Peter has tons of experience with direct action.

We have a lot of work to do to bring justice to the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon and to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for their destruction. As our movement continues to grow, high-level officials will have little choice but to listen.

Thank you again for your ongoing support.

In solidarity,

Steven Donziger
