December 17, 2022 HEATHER COX RICHARDSON DEC 18 One of the cool things about art is that it speaks to you differently depending on what’s going on in your own life. When my friend Peter sent me this picture a long time ago as I was running around from one thing to another, I barely noticed it next to some of his more dramatic scenes. Today, after spending a week at home too sick to do much of anything, the great blue heron just chilling on a dory laden with the weight of an unfinished project jumped out at me. Peter calls the picture “Abeyance,” which means “a temporary state of inactivity or suspension.” Perfect. I’m on the upswing now, but going to take an early night. I need it-- we all need it-- because next week looks like it’s going to be intense. I’ll see you tomorrow.
