It’s our duty to defend democracy

 

I’m Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Alexander Vindman, and I served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army and as the Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council until 2020.

I’m writing to you because our country is at a crossroads, and two paths lie before us: one leads towards a better, more equitable future for all Americans—the other jeopardizes the very foundations upon which our democracy is built.

I’m supporting Tim Ryan for Senate in Ohio because he recognizes that his duty as an elected official is to fight on behalf of those he represents. Will you show your support for Tim by making a $25 contribution to his campaign?

What happened on January 6th was nothing short of an existential crisis for the United States, and if we fail to recognize and remedy how we got there, we’re surely doomed to repeat it.

But there are people in Washington, and others running for office, who seek to further undermine our democracy by casting a shadow over the legitimacy of our elections, stripping Americans of their fundamental rights.

JD Vance is one of those people—he didn’t create the MAGA movement, but his shameless attempts to curry favor with Donald Trump and the Trump base is part of the hyperpolarization tearing this country and our communities apart.

Tim Ryan is the opposite: he puts the people he represents first, and he’s a fierce fighter for hardworking Americans.
