Republican lawmakers are once again pushing to arm teachers – and they’re passing new laws as we speak.
Until last week, teachers and other school staff in Ohio who wanted to carry a gun on school property were required to undergo 700 hours of firearm safety training.
But a new bill just signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine reduces the training requirement to 24 hours.
Our Executive Director, Adrienne Bell, is a Texas school teacher and she shared her thoughts on this new law in a recent email:
“Most teachers have zero interest in carrying guns to school because we inherently know it makes us and our students less safe.”
Now we would like to hear from you.
Do you think it’s a good idea for teachers to carry guns in schools?
