I won’t let the Republican recall distract me from reforming our system

Last month, our office exposed that the SFPD’s crime lab was routinely using the DNA of survivors of sexual assault to search for matches to suspects in criminal cases.

In response, I co-sponsored legislation to prohibit law enforcement from retaining the DNA profile of sexual assault survivors in a searchable database that could be searched for reasons entirely unrelated to sexual assault.

This legislation will protect victim privacy and promotes public safety by encouraging survivors to report sexual violence.

Despite this, the Republican-funded recall has continued to spend millions to promote lies about my policies, and kick me out of office as I continue to fight for criminal justice reform.

Here’s the bottom line: I’ve made clear that I won’t let the GOP-endorsed recall distract me from the work that needs to be done to make San Francisco safer. That means I won’t stop fighting for victims, holding cops accountable, and protecting our city from gun violence.

But thanks to just a handful of Republican billionaires like William Oberndorf, we are facing a MASSIVE fundraising disadvantage in this campaign. So I need to ask for your support: Will you donate $20, $50, $100, or whatever you can afford to help me keep our efforts to reform the criminal justice system on the right track?

I always knew the “tough-on-crime” old guard would come after me with every ounce of power they had.

But I also know that I was elected for a specific reason: to make San Francisco safer by holding those in power accountable, advocating for victims, and protecting San Francisco from crime before it happens.

With your help, we'll keep going. Thanks for your support,

Chesa Boudin
District Attorney, San Francisco

P.S. If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll take the time to read my interview in last week’s edition of New York Times Magazine.

Chesa Boudin was elected District Attorney of San Francisco in 2019 to reform our criminal justice system. Now, right-wingers  want to reverse our progress and return our city to a time when innocent people were locked away and police acted with impunity.

Please chip in today to keep up the fight to reform San Francisco's criminal justice system.
