The House just passed a government funding bill that increased military spending and spent more money on mass deportation and immigrant detention. 7 Justice Democrats were included in just 15 Democrats who voted against this funding bill.
Biden’s first military budget was even larger than Trump’s last pentagon spending package. Now, Democrats just sent EVEN MORE money to the military industrial complex. And Democrats continue to fund the inhumane detention and deportation of immigrants.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Pramila Jayapal voted NO and stood with the people in demanding we stop massive increases in defense spending.
Justice Democrats have been the leaders outspoken about how we need to deliver Medicare for All to the people, bolster the social safety net, and truly address the climate crisis. Instead, Democrats and Republicans voted for more weapons, deportation, and detention.
Will you stand with AOC, Cori, Jamaal, Rashida, Ilhan, Ayanna, Pramila, and Justice Democrats today in our fight to do what’s right for the people? Chip in $10 so we can re-elect and expand our JD bloc in Congress. We must continue our advocacy for our government to put people over war, violence, and profits for defense corporations.
If America has money for war and deportation raids, it must have money for Medicare for All and a Green New Deal. It’s a policy choice to fund violence rather than programs that will serve the people and the planet.
Speaker Pelosi even cut a $15 billion dollar investment in preparing for the next Covid variant and distributing the vaccine overseas.
When it comes down to it, corporate Democrats do not want to pass popular progressive policies. It’s on the Justice Democrats in Congress — and the grassroots movement behind them — to hold the line in the fight for working people.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
