Join me in calling on DOJ to investigate ‘deeply concerning’ misuse of rape exam DNA

Rape survivors, child victims, consensual sex partners: San Francisco police have used DNA from all of them for 7 years

Earlier this week, we confirmed that the San Francisco Police Department’s crime lab has routinely used DNA of survivors of sexual assault, including child victims, to search for matches to suspects in criminal cases.

They’ve also been keeping DNA profiles -- including, for example, from victims of violent crimes, child victims, or individuals entirely uninvolved in the crime like roommates and consensual partners.

This is our worst nightmare coming true. Put simply, this unethical, illegal practice is giving rape victims a terrifying reason to be silent: Their DNA could be used against them.

As District Attorney, my priority is protecting the public and eliminating barriers for victims to seek services and justice. I won’t stand for the SFPD crime lab’s practice. And I’d like to ask you to join me (and Congressman Adam Schiff) in calling on the Department of Justice to investigate.

I'll never stop fighting to protect the privacy of sexual assault survivors and to remove barriers to reporting rape.

Chesa Boudin was elected District Attorney of San Francisco in 2019 to reform our criminal justice system. Now, right-wingers  want to reverse our progress and return our city to a time when innocent people were locked away and police acted with impunity.

Please chip in today to keep up the fight to reform San Francisco's criminal justice system.
