Seriously?

Yes. Seriously.

Today's Action: Equal pay for women? Not with the filibuster in place.

You probably already know these statistics. Compared to male wages-per-dollar in the United States, women only make 82 cents...and that ratio drops significantly lower for Black, Latinx, and Native women. Although the Equal Pay Act passed in 1963, it doesn’t go far enough, which is why House Democrats passed the Paycheck Fairness Act to add additional resources and tools to guarantee fair compensation.

But yesterday, Senate Republicans issued their second filibuster of the year, blocking Democrats from advancing the Paycheck Fairness Act, claiming...honestly, it doesn’t matter what they claim, because it’s all fabrication and excuses and they’ve been obstructing this bill since its first introduction in 1997. We will not get a good-faith bipartisan deal to support equal pay for women with the party that’s aggressively moving forward to block women’s rights to their own bodies and healthcare.

No negotiations with bad-faith Republicans. For over 50% of the population of the United States, the filibuster has to go.

Call or email your Senators and demand they eliminate the filibuster in order to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. If you live in a state with a filibuster-protecting Democrat – Joe Manchin (WV) or Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) – remind them that they co-sponsored this legislation and want to see it passed.

Under the Paycheck Fairness Act, employers would be required to show justified cause for compensating different amounts for the same job, employees who inquire or whistleblow about wage practices would be protected from retaliation, and the act would strengthen penalties for violating equal pay law.

But Republicans are far more concerned with protecting their big business friends, who bankroll their re-elections, from extra costs than they are with helping the millions of women they serve...especially since the majority of the women who need this legislation the most would (and will, with more enfranchisement and resources) vote them out in a heartbeat.

We’re done pretending bipartisanship works with the GOP. The filibuster MUST go to provide equal pay protections for women.

Email or call your Senators. Tell Democrats to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act – they MUST eliminate the filibuster! Tell Republicans you’ve just seen how their party feels about women and you’ll be voting them out.
